Big bend fishing report Jan. 4, 2026

Big lowtides, Big catches

The airboat bite has officially gone into overdrive and the 100-fish days are here. This week’s conditions have lined up about as good as it gets for winter airboat trips in the Big Bend.

Repeated cold fronts and steady north winds have kept water levels low, exposing shell bars, mud flats, and deep potholes where fish are stacked up thick. Redfish and trout are packed into predictable areas, and once you find them, the action is nonstop. Most days are turning into striaght up stickfest with bent rods from start to finish.

Redfish have been aggressive and willing to eat just about anything put in front of them, while trout numbers have been excellent, with plenty of quality fish mixed in. The cooler water has them feeding hard, and every tide window seems to produce.

If you’ve been waiting on the prime airboat window, this is it. Negative tides, cold water, and concentrated fish make for fast-paced fishing and big numbers. These are the days we look forward to all year, and they don’t last long.

Now is the time to get on the calendar and experience true Old Florida airboat fishing at its best.
