April 26-May 3 Report

Fishing has been picking up along with the warmer weather. There’s been a decent bite for big snook and trout, and once the cold fronts finally move out, things should become more consistent. As temperatures rise, bait pods are showing up more, with snook and trout mixed in around them. Live bait has been the top choice for snook, while artificials are working well for smaller fish, and trout are hitting those too.

On calmer days between fronts, large schools of Spanish mackerel have been showing up, along with plenty of blacktip sharks and some roaming jack schools along the beaches. A few tarpon have started to appear, but the constant fronts have made beach fishing pretty hit or miss.

Early this week looks windy, but conditions should settle down toward the end. The lagoon should still offer some action, though beach fishing may be better saved for the weekend. Focus on finding bait schools and clean water, and you should see some solid results
