What a month August was!
I spent most of the month fishing some great clients in the Louisiana marsh. While the redfish could be a little finicky at times, we were still able to put plenty of fish in the boat every trip, along with Cobia, Sea Trout, Flounder, Triple Tail, Pompano, Black Drum, and some giant Jacks!
Now that I’m back home in Florida’s beautiful Big Bend, it’s time to get back into the swing of things on my home waters.
The Redfish and Trout are chomping at the bit for some cooler weather, and they’re proving it every morning when that rain-cooled water hits the flats and gets their appetite fired up. Both are crashing topwater baits like the MirrOlure She Dog, and when the grass gets too thick, the 5-inch Saltwater Assassin jerk baits are putting plenty of fish in the boat.
And I can’t do a fishing report without talking about the scalloping this year!
While some counties have had to shut down early, the waters off Econfina are absolutely stuffed with scallops. A 10-gallon limit is easily picked up in less than an hour, and we’re open for business through September 24th.
