Summertime Fun

Summertime in Florida’s Big Bend is hard to beat. Between the incredible fishing and the best scalloping in the state, there’s never been a better time to get on the water.

The fishing has been excellent, especially during the early morning hours. Redfish and big trout are crushing topwater lures, and while the grass can make things challenging, it’s well worth the effort. When the grass gets too thick, a 5-inch Saltwater Assassin jerkbait rigged weedless has been producing plenty of trout and redfish. If you’re not an early riser, don’t worry—moving out to deeper water has been producing trout, sea bass, Spanish mackerel, and several other species.

The biggest story of the summer, though, is the scalloping. The numbers are simply unbelievable. We haven’t had a single trip where we’ve needed more than one stop to limit out. The bottom is absolutely covered with scallops, and most dives are producing four or five scallops every time someone comes up. To top it off, the size has been outstanding.

Without a doubt, Florida’s Big Bend is the premier scalloping destination in the state, and we still have two full months of season left.

If you’ve been thinking about making a trip, now is the time. Come experience what everyone has been talking about and make some unforgettable memories on the water.
