Anna Maria Island Fishing Report – First Week of October

October is off to a fantastic start here on Anna Maria Island. The weather has been absolutely perfect — mild mornings, comfortable afternoons, and calm water that’s made for some excellent fishing across the board.

Redfish Are Firing Up

Fall redfish action is in full swing. We’re catching good numbers of slot-size reds around the mangrove edges and oyster bars, especially on the higher stages of the tide. Cut bait, live pilchards, and even soft plastics have been producing great results. It’s that time of year when the reds are feeding heavy before the water starts to cool off, so now’s the time to get after them.

Snook Bite Still Going Strong

The snook bite hasn’t slowed down a bit. We’re finding plenty of fish along the beaches, inlets, and backwater creeks. Most of them are in the mid-20s to 30-inch range, with a few bigger ones mixed in. Live bait continues to be the ticket, but they’ll also crush a well-presented topwater plug early in the morning when the light’s low.

Mackerel Everywhere

Spanish mackerel have shown up thick just off the beaches and around the nearshore reefs. It’s been easy action — find the birds, toss a spoon or free-line a pilchard, and you’re on. These fish are a blast on light tackle and make for some great table fare when bled and iced right away.

Perfect Fall Conditions

We couldn’t ask for better weather this week. Light winds, mild temperatures, and clear water have made for picture-perfect days on the water. The fall transition is officially here, and with it comes some of the best mixed-bag fishing of the year — redfish, snook, trout, mackerel, and even a few early-season pompano starting to show.

Plan Your October Charter

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to book your fall trip, this is it. The bite is hot, the crowds are down, and the weather couldn’t be better. Whether you’re after a big snook, schools of redfish, or non-stop mackerel action, October is one of the best times to fish Anna Maria Island.
