February 22-28 Report

Great week of inshore and nearshore fishing. Pompano inshore after the last cold front were firing—one of the best bites in years. The trout bite remains solid, and there are plenty of bluefish and jacks around. Big black drum schools are spotty, but we’ve seen them a day or two. Nearshore has been decent despite the dredge pumping silt toward the beaches. Plenty of jacks, bluefish, mackerel, and some pompano mixed in. Shepherd and margate on the reefs with lane snapper and juvenile muttons. Weakfish nearshore have been decent too, with some larger fish this year. Winds look to keep us inshore this week, with a focus on pompano and trout and keeping an eye on how the snook bite has recovered from the cold fronts. Should improve over the next few weeks with warmer temps and spring bait moving into the lagoon more consistently.
