May 25-31 Fishing report and June 1 forecast

We had a solid week of both inshore and nearshore fishing, with plenty of snook, trout, redfish, and jacks inshore, along with tarpon and sharks along the beaches. Lighter winds and calm conditions made for great fishing opportunities. Getting on the water early was important to stay ahead of the heat, but overall the action felt much more typical for this time of year compared to the past several weeks.

The warmer weather, lighter winds, and full moon all contributed to a strong early-morning bite. Bait remains abundant throughout much of the lagoon, and snook, redfish, and trout are holding right in the bait schools. The topwater bite has been productive at first light, while live bait continues to be the best option once the sun gets higher.

Nearshore fishing was also productive over the weekend, with tarpon beginning to show up and plenty of sharks and jacks providing action. The jacks have been a bit finicky, traveling in smaller daisy-chaining schools and showing a more selective attitude toward presentations. Water clarity has remained good, and bait schools are becoming more widespread.

If we settle into our typical summer pattern of steady winds and calm seas, fishing should remain consistent and productive through the rest of the summer.
