nshore fishing eased off somewhat this week after a very cold start caused lagoon water temperatures to drop by more than 10 degrees. Although air temperatures rebounded later in the week, the water remained cold. The inlet continued to hold fish, with live shrimp producing good action from snapper, sheepshead, and pompano, along with jacks, pompano, and bluefish on the deeper flats. The inshore trout bite slowed, most likely due to the sudden decrease in water temperature.
Another cold front is expected early this week, with overnight lows in the 40s and 50s, which should push water temperatures down even further. For anglers looking to get on the water and catch fish, the inlet remains the best option. You may need to sort through some catfish, but snapper, bluefish, pompano, and a few mackerel should still be available. If temperatures moderate, snook activity could pick up as well, depending on how cold the water gets.
