June was another absolutely incredible, tarpon-filled month here in Southwest Florida! The Silver Kings were out in full force, and our anglers experienced some truly unforgettable days on the water.
Success on the Beaches
For the majority of the month, we focused our efforts just off the beaches, targeting massive pods of migrating tarpon. The coastal waters provided the perfect backdrop for sight-casting to these incredible fish, and the bite was highly productive.
One of the biggest highlights of June was helping so many of our clients catch their very first tarpon. There is nothing quite like the thrill of seeing an angler’s reaction when a hundred-pound fish violently takes the bait and goes instantly airborne. Earning that first silver scale is a milestone, and we were thrilled to make it happen for so many guests this month.
Transitioning to the Bay and Flats
As we wrap up June, we are starting to see a distinct shift in the fishes’ patterns. Tarpon are making their way off the beaches and pushing into the bay systems and shallower flats. This transition opens up a whole new style of fishing for us. Targeting these giant fish in the calmer, shallower waters of the backcountry requires stealth and precision, making for a highly visual and rewarding angling experience.
Looking Ahead: Why July is a Hidden Gem
If you think the tarpon season ends in June, think again! July is shaping up to be another stellar month for world-class tarpon fishing, and it comes with one massive advantage: the crowds are gone. With the peak-season boat traffic thinning out, the fish face much less pressure. We still have a massive population of large, migratory tarpon in town feeding aggressively. Less pressure and hungry fish mean prime opportunities for epic hookups.
